16 Black Female Travel Influencers to Follow
In honor of the Black Lives Matter movement that is sweeping across our country, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some amazing black female travel influencers. Some of these creators are people I’ve been following for a while, and whom I’ve developed relationships with….while others are new to me as I am making a better effort to read and learn from a diverse array of voices.
One of the things I love most about travel is the opportunity to explore different cultures and perspectives, so shouldn’t that extend to who we follow on social as well? This list is comprised of bloggers, Instagrammers, and YouTubers who are making names for themselves online - each with their own unique experiences and ways of communicating with audiences. I admire the way they share their adventures with the world and I hope you do too!
1. Ashlee Major Moss
Ashlee is a beautiful black woman from London who takes amazing photos and indulges in the joy of travels. Her self-titled YouTube channel is where she Vlogs her exciting travels and unique lifestyle adventures. She gives tips on how to conquer the landscapes around you at the lowest costs and discomforts. Her audiences are taken along with her so that if they decide to take a trip to that destination, they would already have a laid out path.
2. Oneika the Traveler
Oneika is a travel writer who contributes her voice to Conde Nast Travel, as well as has her own blog, Oneika the Traveler. Her image is built on honesty and frankness. She is not afraid to deliver beautiful pictures that project confidence and self-expression. Her adventures will definitely be a source of inspiration to people who follow her posts. She frequently posts specifically about the black experience abroad.
3. Spirited Pursuit
Lee’s instagram page encapsulates the visual daydreams of a wanderer sharing her lunges into the beauty of the earth. Her posts are beautiful, practical and inspirational. They come from an original point of view which is perfect for people that are interested in a deep, spiritual journey into new cultures and landscapes.
4. The Awkward Traveller
Kay’s travel blog, The Awkward Traveler, is filled with adventurous and funny experiences. It gives travellers an inside on the quirks and mis-fortunes of an ’’ill-equipped traveller’’. Her blog posts rotate from fresh, fun, to daring and helpful. From giving his audiences safe road-trip tips to creating personality quizzes about traveling companions.
5. Erica Everywhere
Erica is a beautiful and successful travel and lifestyle blogger. Her blog - Erica Everywhere is the ultimate travel guide for all your within-budget travel needs. It aims to provide tourists with new and fresh ways of enjoying their vacation without going over budget. From wonderful photo spots in Venice to tips on hotels and housing locations. In addition to sharing her travel experiences, she also writes a lot about blogging as a business and how to set yourself up for success.
6. Juleen Meets World
Expect nothing less than amazing stories and reviews from this Jamacian software engineer and wine enthusiast. She has a YouTube channel where she keeps her viewers spellbound while they go on adventures with her. Juleen Meets World also runs a humorous blog filled with wine and travel reviews. she dives into the potentially stressful situations all travellers encounter from time to time and how to effectively survive them without having a heart attack.
7. Away From Origin
Natasha is the travel and lifestyle blogger behind Away from Origin. Thru her writing, Natasha shares her cultural experiences and reflections from around the world. She is a self prolaimed foodie and loves eating her way across as many countries as possible, while balancing her English teaching role abroad. She has a way of fully immersing you into the cultures and lifestyles of the locations she visits, while keeping things light and fun.
8. Jessica Ufuoma
Jessica tells you never to stop dreaming because it is obvious that she hasn’t! Her Instagram is filled with pictures that will transport you around the world and her goal is to inspire others to explore. A finance professional by day, she loves sharing travel resources & stories so that you too could be the one sitting on the steps of the Taj Mahal. She organizes virtual hangouts on Instagram where she discusses career paths, networking and the art of negotiation. With a smile on her face or a pensive, knotted brow, Jessica Ufoma is one intelligent and inspiring black travelers.
9. Bella WorldWide
Her name tells you about what she is about. A beautiful girl that is keen on taking the whole world head on. She is not afraid of expressing herself and is genuine in all she does.. She has a very African touch since she hails from and often visits Ghana. Her artistic side is evident in her page and she also plays the acoustic guitar. She has a beautiful sense of style, often incorporating her ethnic roots. The satisfaction she feels from life is very infectious. She shares her belief that travel is the best education as you can see the world through multiple lenses and realize that the little corner you explored growing up is just one reality.
10. Ajata Travels
Hannah identifies as a lover of life and an explorer. She is a free-spirited woman with a passion for sharing stories and learning about other people and cultures. Not only does Hannah takes beautiful, soothing pictures on instagram but she also presents international news, makes documentaries and blogs. British but of Nigerian descent, she has recently been travelling across West Africa - sharing her experiences and thoughts.
11. Tia Takes the World
Tia is an African American woman on an amazing journey to take the world. She has always been a traveller but growing up, her trips were mostly limited to nearby beaches or one major city a year in the US. During a 3 month trip to Germany, she really caught the wander bug and there was no going back! She now lives and teaches in the UAE. She has tremendous passion for seeing the world and believes travel does wonders for the soul and has the power to shape us as individuals. Thru her content she weaves her creative and comedic voice, as she shares her top travel tips and resources.
12. Packs Light
Gabby Beckford is a Gen Z traveller & TedTalk speaker who focuses on travel tips, marketing, writing, and discovering opportunities. A real adventurer at heart, her first solo trip was to Iceland at only 17 years old. 17 years old, where most of us are still struggling with high school crushes, this young woman decided that the world was hers to seek out. She shows amazing drive and focus in everything she does and it can be felt through her posts on instagram. She speaks at travel conferences and uses her reach to sponsor trips of young adults through funded travel opportunities which she called Packs Light Travel Opps.
13. One Grl One World
Francesca Murray just exudes positivity and fun. She writes about her adventures on her travel blog, One Grl One World, as well as has a budding YouTube channel. This California girl’s outgoing personality and endless curiosity has often led her to chatting up strangers while traveling - leading to unlikely friendships and unique local experiences. She’s been to 25 countries (and counting of course!). Her goal is to encourage her readers to explore the world fearlessly and interact with local cultures and customs along the way.
14. Joy Iromuanya
Joy is Delta flight attendant sharing her adventures at work and in free time on Instagram. She has visited 22 countries and aims to explore as much as she can with her breaks from work! She is very relatable, genuine, and authentic in all she does and puts out into the world. Her passions in life include experiencing different cultures, enjoying delicious local cuisine, and being outdoors. She has a travel blog that she is just getting off the ground - and is thinking of starting a YouTube channels soon as well! Her mission is to empower her followers to free themselves of limiting self beliefs and dive head first into self discovery and diverse cultures - she’s seen first hand the changes that can come from travel and encourages everyone to go somewhere that isn't on their radar!
15. Daia larie
Daia Larie is a travel and fashion instagrammer and blogger. This 23-year-old hails from Los Angeles, but resides in Sydney. She caught the wander bug early and was committed to creating an unconventional lifestyle for herself! With just $1200 to her name, she taught herself to use a camera and develop skills to make money on the road, while traveling. She started a blog to share her journey, and encourage others to let go of the things that are holding them back from realizing their true self. She has now visited 21 countries and had many, many amazing adventures along the way.
16. Maryjane
Maryjane is a 22 year old American girl who loves to travel. She only left the US for the first time a few years ago - on a trip to visit her sister in China. But one trip was all it took her to be completely smitten with travel! She now documents her adventures and misadventures in travel on YouTube. Maryjane loves a travel challenge and is most drawn to the places that people tell her to avoid. She’s on a mission to see as many countries as she can and take us along for the ride.
