Perfect 4 Day Itinerary Zanzibar

Zanzibar. Even the name sounds exotic, doesn't it? It conjures up images of white sand beaches & crystal blue waters, colonial architecture, exotic spices & eclectic cuisine, and a unique, vibrant culture—with African, Arab, and European influences.

The Tanzanian island and trading post has a distinct and storied history and is definitely worthy of a visit while you’re in East Africa. We fit it in between safaris in different countries and it provided a welcomed break to a busy trip. So I wanted to share an itinerary for spending 4 days in Zanzibar.

This is actually a little different than what we did — we did only 3 days and all at Nungwi. However, the roads to get to Nungwi are VERY poor. So once you get there, I would recommend not leaving again via car until you are headed to the airport.

We stayed at Z Hotel, which I loved and is perfectly situated on the beach….in the middle of the action. Staff was helpful and friendly, rooms clean & AC worked great, and the pool was the perfect place to hang out (get a drink, get a massage, etc.)

We organized our transportation thru a very friendly (and hilarious) guy named Lukman — I would highly recommend reaching out to him with any transport / tour needs. He’s very helpful!
